Live like Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada

The iconic limestone and marble townhouse that Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly called home in the hit 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada is now up for sale in New York City’s Upper East Side.

The stylish Neo-Italian Renaissance structure was purchased by hedge-fund mogul Craig Effron and his wife Caryn almost a decade ago for US$8.8 million, and has since been customised to their tastes in 2005 by Anthony Baratta.

The townhouse, which spans across five levels and offers over 1114sq m of living space, is now asking for a whopping US$27.5 million.

Built in the early 1900s and designed by architect Henry Allan Jacobs, the townhouse has seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, which can all be accessed via an elevator or a stunning spiral staircase.

It also features a full basement with a recreation room, and a roof terrace complete with a hot tub.

The formal gallery boasts a marble fireplace and glamorous Murano chandelier, while the inviting den is laced with Anigre wood paneling.

The living room features two fireplaces, a wall of custom bookshelves, and three sets of arched French doors.

The fireside dining room is highlighted by a cerulean blue chandelier and doors that lead to a terrace.

The gourmet kitchen comes complete with gingham marble floors, Carrara marble and stainless countertops, industrial lighting from the 1930s, top-tier Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, and an accompanying breakfast room.

One of the standout features of the townhouse is the sumptuous master retreat, which is outfitted with a Juliette balcony, fireplace, spacious walk-in-closet, and a luxe bath equipped with dual vanities, a dressing area, and a soaking tub beneath a tall oculus window.

Another bedroom has been converted into a mirrored gym and fireside library, and there is also a bespoke basketball court.

The townhouse is right across the street from Gloria Steinem’s home, adding to the allure of the location.

The listing is held by Adam Modlin of Modlin Group.
