Rupert Murdoch’s nephew selling ‘Paradise Found’

David Calvert-Jones, an Australian-born businessman based in Los Angeles, has put his Sullivan Canyon home up for sale after owning it for nearly 14 years.

The property, nestled on the edge of Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, is on the market for just under US$21.5 million, according to the Robb Report.

This marks a significant increase from the US$4 million Calvert-Jones, who is media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s nephew, and his wife Karina paid when they purchased the home.

The residence, once owned by Hollywood actress and activist Maxine Cooper, has a rich history.

Cooper, renowned for her role in the 1955 film noir Kiss Me Deadly, and her husband Sy Gomberg, an Oscar-nominated producer and screenwriter, acquired the house in the mid-1960s for US$122,500.

They held it for almost five decades.

Designed in the early 1940s by famed architect Cliff May, the property has undergone extensive renovations and expansions under the Calvert-Joneses.

The house, a five-bedroom, five-bath residence, sprawls over 576sq m.

Its design features include stone and rustic hardwood floors, vaulted wood-beam ceilings, and steel-framed windows and doors that offer stunning views of the garden-laced grounds.

Located in the Riviera Ranch area, also developed by May, the house is known as ‘Paradise Found’.

It sits on nearly two-thirds of an acre and is hidden at the end of a leafy cul-de-sac.

Its exterior is a blend of creamy stucco, stone, and terra-cotta roofing, and it is secluded behind walls and a gated driveway adorned with mature olive trees.

The interior boasts numerous luxury features, including a fireside living room that doubles as a screening room, a formal dining room, a glass-lined breakfast room with an antler chandelier, and a gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances.

The primary bedroom suite includes a sitting area with a fireplace, French doors, a walk-in closet, and a spa-like bathroom.

Outside, the property offers a detached guesthouse, horse stable, swimming pool, open-air cabana with a fireplace, and various spots for outdoor lounging and entertainment.

The estate is listed by Drew Fenton and Bjorn Farrugia of Carolwood Estates, and Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty.
