In the picturesque surroundings of Rancho Santa Fe, a strikingly unique home designed by Wallace E. Cunningham, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, has been listed for sale at US$10.5 million.

Wing House was commissioned in the late 1970s by a couple moving from the Midwest, marking Cunningham’s first independent project after studying at Wright’s Taliesin West, according to the Robb Report.

The design is a testament to Cunningham’s innovative approach, featuring a composition of steel, concrete, and glass that curves in harmony with the landscape.

The roughly 353sq m residence showcases Kandinsky-esque concentric circles forming two overlapping wings, creating an S-shaped configuration that complements the rolling terrain.

Central to the design is an open courtyard with a crescent moon-shaped zero-edge pool, positioned between the curved wings.

The property includes a three-bedroom main house with three-and-a-half bathrooms and an additional structure mirroring the main house’s design, offering more space for guests or staff with three bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a bathroom.

Key features of the home include a minimalist fireplace in the great room, a massive eye-shaped skylight that bathes the interior in natural light, and sliding glass walls that seamlessly connect the indoor spaces with the verdant outdoors.

The kitchen, hidden behind a curved wall, features sleek, curvilinear wooden cabinetry and circular islands cleverly designed with a frameless glass divider.

The property, invisible from the gated entrance, unfolds as one approaches, revealing the undulating contours of the architecture and a series of patios that embrace the house.

Additional amenities include a solar array that powers the home and pool, enhancing its self-sufficiency.

The sale of Wing House is being managed by Matt Altman, Josh Altman, and Jason Saks of Douglas Elliman.

This listing not only offers a chance to own a piece of architectural history but also to live in a work of art crafted by one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s distinguished followers.
