New RE/MAX franchise manager plans to nurture winning businesses

Daniel Roberts has teamed up with RE/MAX Australia as Franchise Manager in Queensland and Northern NSW.

His focus is on RE/MAX broker owners and the health and growth of their businesses, which channels his vast experience across many facets of the real estate industry, including business ownership.

“Daniel is adding value to our business operations in Queensland and Northern NSW as first priority”, RE/MAX Australia Managing Director, Joel Davoren, said.

“However, our network across Australia will feel real benefits.

“We are extremely excited to welcome him to the RE/MAX Australia team for his operational experience, corporate experience and, most significantly, his experience as a successful real estate business owner.”

Mr Roberts entered real estate possessing skills and experience gained through owning and managing hotels.

After 18 months in the industry, he decided it was time to establish his own business, which he did with Roberts One Real Estate, in regional Victoria, in January 2009.

Starting from scratch, he built a successful business with one goal always front of mind, profitability.

Fourteen years on, he was at a crossroad: seriously grow the business or sell and go north.

When he sold two years ago, Mr Roberts passed on a legacy of a solid business.

“We had previously bought a home at Mt Cotton in Queensland with a 10-year plan but brought that forward,” he said.

A keen Aussie Rules fan, with 30 years on the field as player and a few as a coach, he sees many parallels in the formation of a truly successful sporting and business team.

In both cases, longevity and involvement are important.

He also sees these as figuring in his relationship with RE/MAX, and said he was excited about being part of the RE/MAX Australia team and the global RE/MAX team.

He believes the qualities he brings to the Franchise Manager role will enable him to make positive impacts on RE/MAX broker owners’ business operations.

“I can relate to them and they to me,” he said.

“I can offer real solutions… and I’m even happy to have them learn from any mistakes I’ve made.

“On a practical level, there were 209 reforms and changes to the Act in Victoria during the time of the pandemic.

“That’s when I started working ‘on’ my business, really homing in on the technical side of the operations, in order to put us ahead of the rest; and that’s exactly what happened.

“I can see a lot of these things coming to the table in Queensland.

“Hopefully, not all will be adopted, just the better ones.

“And I can help the broker owners and their teams prepare for and manage these changes.”

Mr Roberts said his working life began with Roberts Farm Supplies, where his father had taken over the family rural merchandising business at the age of 18 and was still there now, some 51 years later.

“My strong work ethic was instilled in me from a young age and was shaped by my family’s background in business,” he said.

“I took over a freehold, then leasehold, hotel with family and successfully quadrupled its business within four years, showcasing my dedication and commitment to achieving results.

“Subsequently, I acquired another hotel, where I was highly successful in changing the landscape of hotels on the Great Ocean Road through innovation and hard work.”

He eventually sold the hotel before embarking on his formal real estate career.

Now settled and looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship with RE/MAX Australia, Mr Roberts said he loved the Queensland culture… and he barracks for the Maroons.

Hopefully his Northern NSW offices will forgive him!
