A psychedelic home that was designed for a woman who was losing her eyesight is officially on the market in California with an asking price of US$998,000.
According to news.com.au, the incredibly unique property was originally purchased in 1977 for US$37,500 but the home was run down and had holes in the floors.
The owners then set about transforming it into something unique, a process that took nearly two decades.
The original owners, J and Sonja Jackson started to use bright colours everywhere throughout the home when it was discovered that Sonja was suffering from a degenerative eye disease, but could still see the bright paintwork.
J also wanted to pay homage to Pacific Grove’s unofficial mascot, the Monarch butterfly, and they created what is now known as The Butterfly House.
There are butterflies in the two bedrooms, the kitchen, the bathrooms and throughout the 124sq m of living space.
According to the listing agent, J passed away a few years ago, and Sonja is selling the home because her needs have changed.
The PG Butterfly House is well known in the community and attracts a constant stream of visitors who are keen to take a peek at one of the world’s most unique homes.
