Abakus Apps – a finance-based smartphone application that streamlines the property tax management process – has been announced as a shortlisted finalist in this year’s Optus MyBusiness Awards, for the category Fintech Business of the Year.
Founded in 2015 by farmer turned emerging fintech entrepreneur Brenton Tidow, Abakus Apps launched to market less than five months ago, and is growing from strength to strength, fast garnering recognition from property investors looking for a more convenient way to manage their tax affairs.

To be a finalist is a massive achievement for me personally, as I’ve bootstrapped the business myself and I’m involved in every aspect of its operations,” said Mr Tidow.
Launched in July 2016, Abakus Apps targets everyday Australian residential property investors. Intuitive and user-friendly, the app helps users self-manage their investment/s, maximise their tax return and obtain an estimate of their tax position at any time during the financial year – minus the receipt clutter.
“As an active property investor myself, I created Abakus Apps because of the frustration of handling the pesky expense receipts relating to my investments. I wanted to develop a unique and intuitive tool that uncomplicated property tax,” said Mr Tidow.
Abakus Apps is a subscription, cloud-based app with a monthly fee of $5.99 for an unlimited number of properties (paid through the iTunes Store or the Google Play Store). “Other accounting software tools can cost users approximately $20 a month, and bookkeepers can charge roughly $100 a month. The difference with Abakus Apps is that it offers users the whole package for a fraction of these prices, saving investors both money and time,” said Mr Tidow.
