Singer Ariana Grande has quietly picked up a Hollywood Hills home from retired movie star Cameron Diaz for US$4.9 million.
Diaz has owned the two-bedroom, two-bathroom home since 2004, having paid just US$1.8 million.
Although the actress never lived in the property, she appears to have purchased it as a “buffer” property for another home she’s owned next door since 2001.
The half-acre hilltop estate is located at the end of a small cul-de-sac and is guarded by a big black gate, with trees and large hedges providing celebrity-level privacy.
According to The Dirt, the structure itself is a single-storey midcentury, originally built in 1950 with approximately 167sq m of living space and boasting panoramic views of the city lights.
According to permit records, Diaz has given the home a makeover — replacing the roof and all the windows, enlarging the kitchen, adding a new powder room and remodelling the two existing bathrooms.
Grande already owns a US$9 million estate in a more exclusive part of the hills, while Diaz and husband Benji Madden have a new Montecito mansion, plus a glitzy $15 million estate in the mountains above Beverly Hills.
