On getting into real estate
I definitely made a conscious decision to pursue a career in real estate. I was working in sales and events at the time; I was obsessed with the pace, the excitement of closing a deal and booking an event, but most importantly, delivering beyond expectations for my clients in terms of customer service, which I did, and still do.
Six years ago an old friend and high-performing agent suggested I join his team as his PA, however the timing simply wasn’t right. The idea stuck in my mind, I thought about it almost daily. I knew I wanted a career, not a job, and that I absolutely wanted to be a sales agent.
Combined with a passion for design, architecture and people, I eventually made the decision to leave events and start a career in real estate, initially as a leasing assistant. I haven’t looked back since.
The happiest moment in my career
Seeing the joy and emotion from our clients that comes from achieving a great sales result, and them being able to close one chapter and start a new one. Selling a home is a huge emotional event, and as a woman having greater emotional sensitivity and a high level of empathy has really served me well.
The most memorable moment
I recently sold an apartment for a lovely young lady close to my age in Stanmore. This was her first home, and a very meaningful and emotional sale for her. Running a full auction campaign, we had five registered bidders on auction day, and we ended up selling well above reserve, and to another young lady who was also buying her first home.
Seeing history repeat itself, and being part of such a significant event for them both was very special. Witnessing the visible level of excitement, happiness and gratitude expressed by both women was incredibly fulfilling.
Best advice she’s received
Be gracious, play a long game and keep your energy positive and high. People pick up on your energy subconsciously whether you realise it or not.
Biggest challenge
As technology evolves and automation in our industry comes to the forefront, the greatest challenge will be maintaining the human connection and personability that makes our role as sales agents so valuable and special.
To be able to balance these two things will be the greatest challenge, as there are huge advantages to recent technological advances in allowing us to do our job more efficiently and deliver a higher level and frequency of service to our clients.
Change for good?
More women leading the industry and in the top sales lists. More female mentors, role models, innovators and game changes in real estate.
