Legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s final project before his death has been listed for sale with a price tag of US$8.95 million.
It features a unique design consisting of a series of overlapping concentric circles — and displays crescents, circles and triangles cut out of its curving concrete block exterior
The home was commissioned in 1959 and completed by Wright’s apprentice John Rattenbury in 1967 for shipping magnate Norman Lykes and his wife Aimee, according to The Dirt.
It’s reportedly one of only 14 circular homes Wright created.
It was last sold for US$1.7 million in 2019 but has previously been listed for almost US$8 million before undergoing a renovation and being listed on Airbnb.
Known as the ‘Circular Sun House’ or alternatively as ‘Lykes House’, it was updated in the early 1990s.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom house is painted all white on the outside and spans a 279sq m floor plan.
Features of the split-level space include slate floors, mahogany walls, built-in wardrobes and meandering hallways.
The living room features a large fireplace and banquette seating, while the kitchen is fitted with stainless steel countertops and appliances.
There’s an office accessed via a narrow spiral staircase.
There are also plentiful views to surrounding canyons, mountains and the city lights via arched windows.
The property is located on just over an acre in the Palm Canyon neighbourhood of Phoenix, bordering the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.
There’s also a den and library, plus a master retreat with a private balcony, marble-clad bath, spa tub and shower.
Outdoors there’s a crescent-shaped pool lined with mother-of-pearl tiles and a water feature.
