EBM RentCover leading the way in landlord claims handling

It can be argued that the true test of an insurance policy comes when a claim is made. This is something EBM RentCover has always known and the specialist landlord insurance provider’s commitment to claims handling excellence has been recognised with a prestigious Mansfield Award.

One of Australia’s leading landlord insurance providers, EBM RentCover, won the 2022 Mansfield Award in the specialty category. The hotly contested specialty award was one of six awards presented to members of the insurance industry that have shown claims excellence.

“While EBM RentCover has been providing outstanding claims service for more than 30 years, the past three years have been arguably the most challenging for the entire insurance industry, with an extraordinary number of claims being made,” EBM RentCover Managing Director Sharon Fox-Slater said.

“The volume of claims is set against a backdrop of a global pandemic, a spate of natural disasters, disrupted supply chains, labour shortages and tumultuous times for the real estate industry and especially the rental market.

“This makes winning the Mansfield Award even more gratifying and a testament to our wonderful claims people who continuously go above and beyond to look after our clients when they need us the most.”

EBM RentCover currently works with more than 1900 professional property businesses across seven states and protects more than 165,000 rental properties across Australia. EBM RentCover has also paid out more than 5000 claims worth more than $39 million in the past 12 months.

The Mansfield Awards, a not-for-profit event run by LMI Group, are named in honour of the British Lord Chief Justice who introduced the industry to the principle of utmost good faith some 250 years ago. The annual awards recognise claims excellence in the Australian insurance industry.

“At EBM RentCover, we understand that having the right landlord insurance is paramount, but it’s when the time comes to make a claim that the true value of the policy and the provider comes to the fore,” Ms Fox-Slater said.

“Whether working with a real estate agent acting on behalf of their landlord client, or with the policyholder directly, it’s our mission to minimise the emotional and financial stress associated with making an insurance claim.

“Winning this award for claims handling excellence is proof that we are doing just that – providing exceptional support from cover to claim.”

This year’s Mansfield Awards saw a field of 935 products reviewed and surveyed to assess claims performance across four categories – personal lines, SME property and casualty, corporate property and casualty, and specialty. LMI Group determines the winners using its ClaimsComparison survey results in combination with ASIC data.
