Focus shifts as Annie Leibovitz lists New York home

Iconic portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz is selling her Upper West Side co-op apartment for US$8.6 million.

Leibovitz purchased the duplex in 2014 for US$11.25 million.

Situated on the fifth and sixth floors of a 12-storey building built in 1910, the location was initially picked for its closeness to her daughters’ school, according to Architectural Digest.

Now that her children are grown, she feels the four-bedroom, three-bathroom property is too large for her needs.

The co-op covers 325sq m and offers stunning views of Central Park.

The building is popular among celebrities, with past residents including Robert De Niro, Lorne Michaels, and Paul Simon.

During her tenure, Leibovitz revamped the kitchen, created an office space, and added a library wall with a sliding ladder in the living room.

The property retains its prewar charms, featuring tall ceilings, inlaid oak floors, a winding staircase with a wooden banister, and original mouldings.

The expansive living room is 62sq m in size and is flooded with light, thanks to a series of windows that face Central Park.

Leibovitz reminisced about the first time she walked into the apartment, captivated by the beautiful light spilling in from the park.

The room also features French doors that open into a formal dining room, which itself boasts original coffered ceiling details and additional views of Central Park.
