Fresh selling potential with virtual staging

Matterport and roOomy team up to provide a full 3D experience

It’s little secret that technology is revolutionising the way consumers engage with and experience products, but now even property staging is set to take a virtual and three-dimensional turn.

Late last year, US-based virtual staging company roOomy announced a partnership with immersive 3D media technology leaders Matterport. The upshot of the collaboration is real estate agents and home owners can virtually stage their properties with images of furnishings, and the result is a 3D walkthrough that’s uncannily realistic.

Each space can cater to the tastes and desires of potential buyers at a fraction of the cost of physical staging.

According to roOomy, the process is simple. Rather than calling in the interior designers, the service enables sellers or agents to select styles for their listing. roOomy’s in-house designers then customise the virtual staging to suit a target audience’s needs.

Proofs are provided before the staging is converted into high-resolution, “photorealistic premium renderings”.

These images can be used on a listing site, with additional capabilities that enable a buyer or agent to tailor a space to their own liking via a design app and 3D web viewer that can also be embedded within a listing site.

“Our mission at roOomy is to break down the visualisation barriers that often accompany the home buying or renting process, while also making it easier and more enjoyable to shop for your new space when it’s time to move,” co-founder and CEO of roOomy Pieter Aarts explained.

The software also enables the use of renderings of real products, enabling retailers to cash in on the virtual staging demand while allowing the production of life-like marketing materials to support the selling process.

Currently in a pilot phase, the virtual staging 3D service is expected to roll out in the US later in 2018, but its implications and potential are clear – soon real estate agents and sellers will have greater flexibility when it comes to creating a visually appealing, virtual experience of a space.

Or, as Matterport CEO Bill Brown explains: “Matterport is digitising the world’s spaces, moving toward a day when any space can be shared or modified online via Web, mobile, VR, or AR.  Enabling roOomy to build a virtual staging app using our platform will transform how real spaces are experienced, allowing users to easily personalise a space and visualise any changes made to it.”
