Hammer time for auctioneers’ annual showdown

Australia and New Zealand’s best auctioneers have been decided and are now set to compete at the annual Australasian Auctioneering Championships (AAC) later this month.

State and territory Real Estate Institutes and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand all completed their auctioneering competitions with their two best auctioneers qualifying for the competition at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

REIA President Adrian Kelly said the Australasian Auctioneering Championships were first held in 1991 between the Real Estate Institutes of Tasmania and Victoria.

“The concept was subsequently adopted by all the State/Territory REIs and REINZ and has become the most prestigious event on the Australasian auctioneering calendar,” he said.

Andrew North of New Zealand took home the title last year however Australia will provide some stiff competition this year.

“We are expecting another hard-fought battle between Australia and New Zealand to ascertain who will be crowned Australasia’s best auctioneer,” Mr Kelly said.

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria and the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania will co-host the event this year with the heats kicking off on Wednesday 23 October, and the finals being held on Thursday 24 October.

“The Championships are open to the public and you will not be disappointed by the skill, professionalism and technical knowledge displayed by all the contestants,” Mr Kelly said.
