A modest Altona home that was once the residence of former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has sold for $1.26 million at auction.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Ms Gillard originally sold the home for $921,000 in 2013 to a family of fans who reportedly paid $220,000 above the expected sale price.
This time around a local family beat out two other parties at auction, according to selling agent Tony Zhang of Levic Group.
“The result was great … but for the buyers, it had nothing to do with Julia,” Mr Zhang said.
“Back in 2013, however, the husband actually bought this property as a present because his wife is a Julia fan.”
The renovated three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is located just a few minutes from Altona Beach and is set on 603sq m.
According to the official listing, the home’s kitchen includes stone-topped benches and stainless steel appliances arranged around a central island bench that provides a wonderful place to gather.
The dining area features gas log fire-heated living and a large north-facing deck.
The master bedroom has been finished with walk-in robes, and its own ensuite, while the remaining bedrooms include substantial built-in robes and are conveniently set near the central bathroom.
The home also includes clever a European laundry, split system heating, and air conditioning, as well as a garden shed and gorgeous polished hardwood flooring throughout.
