Kingscliff agent runs open home in Mona Vale from 800km away

Some creative thinking by a Ray White sales agent on the Tweed Coast of NSW has resulted in a rather unusual open home experience in Metro Sydney.

Ray White Kingscliff’s James Shugg turned to outside the box thinking when his mother decided to put her home at 6/125 Darley St West, Mona Vale in NSW on the market.

“I said to mum, ‘I can sell it for you’. I can sell it by negotiation and I can get there by Facebook’s FaceTime. It’s easy, all we need is an iPad on a tripod and I’m there,” Mr Shugg said.

This essentially means that from his office in Kingscliff in Northern NSW which is more than 800km away Mr Shugg answers house hunters’ questions more from a distance and then follows up potential buyers with a phone call, with Mr Shugg’s sister Julie-ann Shugg and her partner Brad Abdilla being on-site to distribute relevant material and direct conversation to the iPad.

As Mr Shugg is based in NSW there are no licence issues. “I rang the Office of Fair Trading. Essentially, I am there to handle questions, and I think it is the way of the future.”

Seller Mrs Raelene Shugg said the biggest reaction has been one of surprise.

“The iPad is set up on a tripod directly facing the front door so people come in, Brad gets
their name and tells them that the agent’s on the table,” she said.

“They’re all looking around for where James’ voice is coming from. It’s just like he’s standing there,” says Mrs Shugg.
