Kylie Depledge: Working together

Property managers should co-operate to get the best outcomes for landlords, says Ray White Yorke Peninsula’s Kylie Depledge

On getting into real estate
My father-in-law spoke about me to an agent and before I knew it I was running his office daily as he mainly worked away at that time.

The happiest moment in my career
The happiest moments are helping people on an everyday basis. Especially people who have been through a terrible time and they come to me for help. To be able to hand the keys to a property and put a smile on their face is all the thanks I need.

The most memorable moment
Most memorable property is every property I lease. The satisfaction I get from this is second to none. Just to make a landlord happy is enough to be memorable for me.

Best advice she’s received
Take each day as it comes and go to bed knowing you have done 150 per cent for all your clients. Treat all clients how you would like to be treated.

Biggest challenge
Drugs. To meet this challenge is to ensure strict screening on all tenancies to ensure you are not put in this position. I see it coming into the future you will have to do a drug test prior to accepting a property. I think this would actually be a positive to the industry.

Change for good?
All agents need to be transparent. We need to work together to ensure no agent is given the wrong reference and put into situations they should not be.

Every agent should tell the truth and not sugar coat. This should also be kept confidential, with each conversation not relayed back to tenants. Maybe property managers will have to sign a confidentiality statement prior to accepting a reference.

‘Elite’ agent means
My definition of an elite agent is someone who is down-to-earth, approachable, willing to go the extra mile each and every day!
