Manos Findikakis: little by little, a little becomes a lot

Does this scenario sound at all familiar? It’s 9am on Monday and your call-back list is in front of you.

But first, you’re tempted to ‘just quickly’ check your social media, scan the news headlines or catch up with John about how his opens went last weekend.

“Go on…,” you think. “Just five minutes won’t hurt,” and you can always come back to that list a little later.

Hmm, yes, but bear the following in mind: our days are our lives lived in miniature.

In other words, the way we live each day shapes the way we end up living our lives.

Brilliant days end up creating brilliant lives, and to have those brilliant days we need to replace the not-so-brilliant actions with brilliant actions.

A little becomes a lot

The art lies in the doing and the not doing (I’d suggest you re-read that last sentence and then perhaps re-read it gain).

There’s a great saying that “little by little, a little becomes a lot”.

In real estate, it is ‘little’ actions that ‘little by little’ build a brilliant career.

Actions silence inactions. Actions speak louder than words.

The right actions create incredible careers.

Incredible careers create incredible opportunities, and incredible opportunities create incredible lifestyles.

And isn’t that why we’re here?

But it happens in the micro-moments and the actions you choose to take, which together add up to create the habits you live by.

Every agent knows what to do

Real estate is far from rocket science and every agent knows what they should be doing to achieve the results and the career they want.

But there’s a difference between what you ‘should’ be doing and what you ‘must’ be doing.

The latter are the non-negotiable pillars for success.

Quite simply they are:

  • Making calls to get you face-to-face
  • Getting face-to-face to win more listings.

The rest of all real estate activity flows on from those two key ingredients, but doing both involves actions.

So yes, checking your social media, rather than making those essential calls immediately is a small thing, but it’s actions like these that add up.

They multiply over the week, the month and the year. Over a career, they compound and have a tangible effect.

What action do you need to take?

Each of us has areas where there’s room for improvement, where one small action repeated could make a major difference down the track.

So I ask you, what action do you need to take?

Do you need to do 10 calls before 10am to get face-to-face with people? Well, work on that action. Block it out every day in your diary. And when the time comes, don’t hesitate, just start.

Do you need to start the day on a better footing, but continually ‘snooze’ the alarm clock, especially on a Monday.

Work on breaking that habit for the rest of the week.

Keep the alarm in another room – force yourself out of bed.

Do you need greater accountability? Before 9am today, send your ‘Last week, this week’ appraisal numbers to your accountability buddy.

Don’t have an accountability buddy? Well, start there and find one.

Do you need to improve your appraisal to listing ratio? Start pulling apart your presentation and get role playing. Set aside an hour to work on it a week, find a constructive critic to assist.

No excuses. No procrastination. No ‘I’ll just…’

Little by little, a little becomes a lot, so what small action can you take right now to build a brilliant real estate career?
