Nigel O’Neil will step down as chief executive officer of real estate group Barry Plant after four years with the business.
Director Mike McCarthy has been appointed as the acting CEO, with Mr O’Neil to transition his handover in the the coming weeks.
A search for Mr O’Neil’s successor has started.
Mr O’Neil took over the CEO role from Mr McCarthy in July 2021 and first joined Barry Plant as head of strategic growth.
A statement from the network said Mr O’Neil was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
“It has been a special privilege to lead this organisation, but after much consideration and off the back of such incredible achievements of late, I feel this is the right time for me to hand the baton over to the next generation of leaders of Barry Plant to guide the group through its next phase,” Mr O’Neil said.
“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved over the last four years and look forward to seeing the business continue to thrive.”
Mr O’Neil has played a key role in driving the strategic growth of the Barry Plant network, including implementing the recently launched RTO – a unique, comprehensive real estate training program.
He has also facilitated the recent addition of four new offices, while redefining customer experience to optimise performance to position the group for future growth.
“Nigel has been a tremendous leader with the Barry Plant network over the last four years, and we wish him well for the future,” Mr McCarthy said.
“He leaves the business in a very strong position with a clear strategy in place, and we thank him for his invaluable contribution to the group, which is performing well across both city and regional areas.”
Barry Plant has more than 70 offices across metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria and Adelaide.
“Barry Plant is in the position it is today as a result of the passion, commitment and expertise of our people,” Mr McCarthy said.
“I am certain we have the right team in place with a definitive strategy, a compelling purpose and strong values to continue to deliver long-term outcomes for all our stakeholders.”
