AFL superstar Dustin Martin’s post-football prospects appear to be as safe as houses, with the Richmond Tigers star buying up $14 million worth of property in Melbourne over the past few years.
It seems the Richmond star is eager to earn his stripes in the world of property, with the 2017 Brownlow Medallist purchasing at least five properties in as many years.
Martin has been quietly making the purchases in conjunction with his sales agent Ralph Carr over the past few years, with a focus on the inner-city suburbs of Richmond and Abbotsford.
According to The Herald Sun, Martin has splurged $6 million on three redeveloped warehouses on Butler Street in Richmond alone.
The suburb is only about 2km from the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Martin has won two Norm Smith medals as best on ground in winning grand finals in 2017 and 2019.
He won a historic third medal in Brisbane last year when the Tigers defeated the Geelong Cats at the Gabba.
The $14 million real estate splurge are only the known purchases he has made in recent years.
The purchases have all been made through companies where Martin is listed as a director.
In addition to being business partners, Martin and Carr are close friends and have started a company together and purchased the properties under that entity’s title.
The biggest deal the pair have done together was their most recent – a $4.8 million outlay for a home in Abbotsford.
The pair have also purchased a property in the leafy area of the suburb near the Yarra River, which they paid $3 million for in 2018.
