On getting into real estate
As a young boy growing up in Bathurst, I loved the energy and pace of the cattle auctions and knew one day I wanted to be an auctioneer. As it turns out I actually started off as a butcher and quickly recognised that people appreciated a strong customer service ethic. After many years as a successful butcher, a friend with an agency invited me to try my luck at real estate. The agency and its team were highly-successful and I have never regretted taking that step, now being with the same agency for more than 15 years.
The happiest moment in my career
Reaching and maintaining elite status with Ray White over 10 years, and earning No 1 Regional NSW for Ray White for 10 years running, No 8 International Agent 2016-2017, and being awarded the coveted ‘Director’s Cup’ in 2017 for the person who made the greatest contribution to the Ray White Brand in NSW for the year. A fabulous honour, all of which was only achievable by working with such a talented and professional service-orientated team.
The most memorable moment
My most memorable property I have sold was an original bungalow-style oceanfront home in Bulli, simply because I sold this property three times (within five years), every time under the hammer with myself as the auctioneer. This property cultivated a large amount of interest every campaign and consequently every auction was abuzz with atmosphere and resulted in a great sale price every time.
Biggest challenge
Internet sites for private sellers which offer fixed price agreements. I feel this style of platform will impact on the quality and level of service within the industry. I personally pride myself on a high level of customer service and I believe the client, whether they are selling or buying property, should receive my personal commitment and expertise as we forge an ongoing relationship that outlasts that one transaction. I’m not convinced these platforms can substitute on that.
Change for good?
Compulsory building and pest reports when a property is listed for sale. This would aid a smoother and transparent transaction.
