Rosie O’Donnell, the renowned comedian, talk show host, and actress, has listed her Manhattan penthouse with a US$8.3 million asking price.
Currently residing in a stunning oceanfront rental in Malibu, O’Donnell has decided to part ways with her Turtle Bay penthouse, which she purchased approximately six years ago for US$8 million, according to Dirt.com.
Despite her celebrity status and multiple achievements, O’Donnell is not aiming to make a significant profit from the sale.
In fact, after accounting for improvement expenses and real estate fees, it is unlikely that she will have any profit remaining.
This isn’t the first time O’Donnell has faced a similar situation, as she previously incurred a million-dollar loss on the sale of a New Jersey mansion and about a US$2 million loss on a five-house compound in upstate New York.
The penthouse spans two floors and features a sprawling roof terrace that offers breathtaking views of the cityscape.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows fill the nearly 334sq m space with abundant natural light.
The great room showcases wide-plank Russian oak floorboards, a honed black granite fireplace, a wet bar with a backlit onyx surface, and a professionally installed sound system.
Adjacent to the dining room, the kitchen is centred around a 10m stainless-steel and wood island snack counter.
The kitchen also boasts duplicate appliances, including two sinks, two ovens, two dishwashers, and a 70-bottle wine fridge.
On the main floor, two of the four bedrooms, including the primary suite, provide comfortable living spaces. A sculptural staircase leads to the second floor, where two more bedrooms, one with a private balcony, and a shared bath are located.
Continuing upward, the staircase leads to a glass bulkhead granting access to the 148sq m roof terrace.
Unique triangular forms protrude from the roof, creating an architectural feature that both obscures and mimics the surrounding buildings.
A small rooftop room offers storage for patio furniture and entertainment amenities, such as a fridge, wine cooler, and microwave, making it convenient for hosting events two floors above the kitchen.
While O’Donnell has previously owned properties along the eastern seaboard, including upscale areas of New Jersey and south Florida, she has recently set her sights on finding a more permanent home in Malibu.
In late 2021, she purchased a modern farmhouse-style residence in L.A.’s Beverlywood neighbourhood for $4.6 million. After just four months, she sold it for its full asking price of $4.9 million.
