After years of the property being on the market, veteran television star Suzanne Somers has sold her Palm Springs estate after a dramatic price cut.
The Three’s Company star and her TV-host husband Alan Hamel recently sold the house for A$10.95 million, according to Top Ten Real Estate Deals.
But the site has reported that the home was originally listed in 2008 for $45 million, before a series of step-by-step price reductions and the successful sale.
Somers first rose to fame as Chrissy Snow on 1970s sitcom Three’s Company and became known to a new generation in the ‘90s when she played the role of entrepreneur and mother and step mum in a blended family in Step by Step.
The home was modelled after L’oustau De Baumaniere in Provence, France, with the couple combining their love of nature and elegance with the use of contrasts.
Several rooms feature crystal chandeliers, and construction materials include natural rock and reclaimed wood – rough against smooth, hard against soft – all in perfect balance.
There are five buildings constructed of natural rock and reclaimed wood, with almost 1000sq m of floor space in total.
One building houses the master suite, a dining room that seats 32, the living room, a separate two-room kitchen, a 2000-bottle wine cellar, and a stone guest house designed in the 1920s by Albert Frey.
There is also an outdoor amphitheatre carved into the mountain that seats 50 and has a dance floor, as well as a pool, spa, hiking trails, and a natural waterfall.
The house is accessed by a private cableway, a golf cart, or a hillside of stone steps.
With Somers now aged 74, and Hamel 84, the current house has too many steps – Somers recently revealed she had to undergo neck surgery after the pair fell down the stairs.
The couple are planning a move to a new house nearby, and will remain at the current address until construction has been completed.
