Are you ready to seize the day?

There are two words that spring to mind as we round out this real estate year and prepare to head into the next – ‘carpe diem’.

This well-known Latin phrase that is commonly translated as ‘seize the day’ dates back centuries to Roman poet Horace before being given a boost in popular culture by the 1989 film Dead Poets Society.

Yet, despite being around for aeons, it remains as relevant now as it was when first etched down in ancient literature.

For many, it has come to mean “do whatever you want to do, right now” – move to the country, live overseas, quit work, eat the pink glazed doughnut, and savour it well, because who knows what the future holds?

It’s the hashtag of thousands of sunrise photos.

It’s spray-painted on walls, emblazoned on T-shirts, and tattooed across chests and arms. In just two words, it has become a life mantra, a philosophy for life, a mentality of a generation.

It encourages people to focus on the present, appreciate the value of every moment in life, and more importantly, to ‘live in the moment.’

So, I ask you, are you ready to seize this moment in your real estate career and life in general, to enjoy the lifestyle you want and the rewards you deserve?

Now is your real estate moment

There’s no time like the present to have the real estate career you want and the lifestyle which that success will afford you.

And there’s nothing holding you back except perhaps habit or fear. If you’re looking to take your career to the next level and seize the day, now is the time to set clear goals for what you want to achieve and reverse engineer.

Whether your goal is $500,000 GCI in your first year or to become a million-dollar agent, you have the power to engineer that success.

And it’s easier than many believe. Consider your average commission and think about how many properties you need to sell to achieve that.

Then reverse engineer again to work out how many appraisals you need to do on average to attain that volume of listings, then how many people you need to touch base with to secure that number of appraisals.

It’s a simple series of metrics that you can calculate right this moment to seize the day, realise your dreams, and create the career you dream of.

Make this moment count

Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today? Who can you touch base with, reach out to, or reconnect with to provide a service they will recall when the time is right to sell?

Make today count, make this your moment, seize the opportunity to be the agent that’s front of mind.

Is now the time to take a leap?

Do you have dreams or aspirations that have been put off from one year to the next? They might be personal ambitions or business plans, but it begs the question what’s holding you back?

Is now the time to seize the day and take a leap? To step outside of your comfort zone, say yes to opportunity and take charge of your own destiny?

Is it going out on your own, taking a different path entirely, or pursuing a pastime that’s been on your bucket list too long?

“Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that fortune grants!” says Horace.

Find the blessings

But it’s not all about career, ambition, and endeavour. To truly seize the day, grant yourself time for personal pleasure and enjoyment.

Gather in today’s blessings, be grateful for what the day brings, because we have absolutely no clue what tomorrow holds.

Be in the moment, and share it with those you care about, as Horace goes on to suggest.

“Why worry whether wealth I have or not, And life in happiness shall end or not- Come, fill the cup; for ’tis unknown to me The breath inhaled shall be exhaled or not.”

So, as another year ends and a new one beckons, are you ready to seize the day and embrace whatever the future holds?
