David Holmes is excited to launch his own agency with vendors, especially in South East Queensland, capitalising on strong buyer demand.
The Announcement:
Real Estate Institute of Queensland Auctioneer of the Year David Holmes has launched his own auction agency as property pundits tip Brisbane to lead capital city growth in 2022.
Formerly Queensland Partner of Cooley, Mr Holmes’s new venture, holmes, will focus on the Brisbane and the Gold Coast markets, as well as NSW’s Northern Rivers and ACT.
Mr Holmes will be supported in his eponymously named agency by fellow auctioneers Brocke Hambrecht and John Smith.
Mr Holmes said he was excited to launch the agency as vendors – especially in South East Queensland – were capitalising on buyer demand.
Personally, Mr Holmes recorded a 226% increase in auctions over 2021 compared to the previous 12 months.
“Experienced auction agents delivered premium results for vendors over 2021, but we also worked with agents who were newcomers to the sales method, helping them educate vendors on the benefits of auctions,” said Mr Holmes.
“I’m confident agents in our key market areas will continue to embrace the auction process throughout 2022.
“We’re particularly bullish about Brisbane and the Gold Coast now that Queensland’s domestic border has re-opened.”
According to CoreLogic, Brisbane had yet to experience the ‘slowdown in the pace of growth in housing values’ which had been observed in Sydney and Melbourne.
While CoreLogic noted national price growth of 3.9% over the last quarter, Brisbane notched 8.5%.
“Queensland offers comparative value to the southern states and now that professionals need little more than reliable internet to work and live where they want, that’s amplifying competition at auctions,” said Mr Holmes.
“About one in three bidders at auctions over 2021 were bidding via online. Whilst they were unable to travel from interstate to bid in-person, the desire to get into the Queensland market remained strong.”
Mr Holmes brings extensive auctioneering, agent training and sales experience to his new auction agency. In addition to his role as Queensland Partner of Cooley, Mr Holmes has held roles as LJ Hooker’s National Auction Manager, Queensland Manager of Homely.com.au and Director of Metro Auctions.
