If you’ve ever hoped to live like a Bond villain, then this luxury home in Sydney’s Kangaroo Point could fit the bill as it comes with its very own shark tank.
According to realestate.com.au, the $5.9 million home features a custom-designed shark tank that currently houses 11 sharks including Bamboo, Port Jackson, and White Tip Reef sharks.
The owner of the two-bedroom and one-bathroom property at 63 Kangaroo Point Rd decided to create the shark tank when he recently renovated the property.
He wanted to transform the wall near the kitchen into a fish tank and hired a luxury aquarium builder to incorporate it into the wall.
The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, was also able to build a large social media following with images of the shark tank, creating a TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram account known as TheGyp—Aus.
“I consider myself an influencer and I run a separate account documenting the daily activities of my life,” the owner of the property said.
“I decided to set up the shark tank account for a bit of fun, and it ended up getting over 20 million views and two million likes.”
The sharks were delivered from Cairns and most of them are tropical reef sharks he said.
“I get a lot of comments about how cruel it is to keep them in a tank that size,” the owner said.
“Prior to this tank, I had no experience keeping fish before.
“I have to hand feed the sharks from the side of the tank since it’s not safe to hand feed them when I’m inside it.
“I also use a diver to clean the tank as I’m scared the sharks might eat me if I hop in!”
McGrath’s Kieran Bresnahan is selling the property and said the owner was going to buy another property and build an even larger shark tank.
He said given the unique nature of the property he’s been trying to identify the right type of buyers.
“I am trying to qualify buyers before they come through because he’s got quite a few fish in there and a number of sharks and it’s fascinating and interesting to look at,” Mr Bresnahan said.
Mr Bresnahan said he hasn’t taken a different approach to marketing the property, but is focused on identifying buyers that would suit a two-bedroom luxury home.
“A buyer is probably not going to buy the property based on the tank alone, it’s going to be a nice add-on,” he said.
“We’ve had some nice interest so far, but for a 1200sq m waterfront home we have to find a buyer that would suit that.
“We had a couple of people come through who are looking to downsize or a family who is prepared to do an extension.”
On top of the unique shark tank, the waterfront property also boasts a boat shed, jetty and pontoon.
There are also plans for extensions to add an upper level and upgrade the alfresco areas by the pool looking over the Georges River as well as the option to create an accommodation wing for the home or transform the cinema room into two bedrooms and a bathroom.
“There’s not a lot of available stock on the market in Kangaroo Point available to buy right now, so it’s a rare opportunity in that regard,” Mr Bresnahan said.
