Manos Findikakis: the pursuit of happiness is all about chasing the ‘right’ things

Whether itโ€™s that next listing, the next step in your career or a better balance between life and work, at any given moment thereโ€™s a lot to strive for in what can feel like a busy and chaotic world.

Sometimes, we can get lost in that chase, pursuing the wrong things, and wasting time and energy on arbitrary milestones or items that donโ€™t serve us as we believe they should.

It begs the question, what are you chasing? And more importantly is it really what you want?

What do you want?

Iโ€™m a big believer in the idea that everything falls into place when you truly know what you want.

And this philosophy extends across all areas of life:

  • in relationships
  • with business and financial aspirations
  • when it comes to how you want to spend your time, and with whom!
  • in the material things you feel are worth chasing
  • in terms of knowing whatโ€™s important and whatโ€™s not
  • in your definition of what you stand for.

Still, all of us can get a little lost along the way, pursuing one thing when we should be looking in an entirely different direction.

But as motivational speaker Lolly Daskal eloquently puts it: โ€œWhen you stop chasing the wrong things you give the right things a chance to catch upโ€.

How very true her interpretation is, prompting that internal reflection โ€˜Am I going after the things I really want? Am I striving to achieve things that truly fulfill, inspire or bring joy and happiness?โ€™

Is it time to reflect?

In real estate, we often talk about setting goals and finding the motivation that drives you. But like anything, these goals and the motivation behind them changes over time.

Perhaps you were once keen to be a million-dollar lister or the top agent in your area, but now maybe that goal has been met and that ambition doesnโ€™t fulfill you anymore.

Perhaps life circumstances have changed and now more time with family is the thing that brings you joy.

Maybe being the trusted real estate advisor in your community is the new ambition that motivates you.

Or, have the goal posts shifted, and youโ€™re ready to lead your own team, give back to the industry, or take the next step into your own business?

Wherever you are in your real estate journey, Iโ€™d urge you to take the time to reflect on what exactly it is that youโ€™re chasing.

Does it fill you with an enthusiasm to get out of bed, be at your best, and keep improving? If not, itโ€™s time to revisit what you actually want.

This is not just about your career either; itโ€™s about the things and people that bring you personal joy and genuine satisfaction.

The rest is easy

When you know what you want (and I mean really want, deep down inside), the rest comes easily.

The โ€˜whatโ€™ is the precursor to the โ€˜howโ€™, the โ€˜whenโ€™ and the โ€˜whyโ€™ that allows everything to fall in line.

The best thing about this industry is that it can take you in so many directions, allowing you to be your own person, set your own limits, and stand for something you believe in.

So I ask you this? What is it that youโ€™re chasing? And if the answer doesnโ€™t fill you with joy, look inside to find the thing that does.
