PMLR to help property managers develop culture and look after themselves in 2023

Personal growth, mental wellbeing and developing a strong culture will be the focus at the 2023 Property Management Learning Retreat (PMLR).

Run by award-winning property manager and founder of Mitchell PT, Hayley Mitchell, the two-day conference will help property managers better navigate the current industry landscape and protect themselves from becoming overwhelmed.

“This year it really is important to learn to sit back and look after yourself, which will then enable you to look after your clients better,” Ms Mitchell said.

“We’re not going to be talking about how to do the property management role, it’s more about how you look after your clients and look after yourself.”

Ms Mitchell said the conference had come at a good time, with many property managers dealing with rising rents, low vacancy rates and a rapidly changing legislative environment.

“If you’re from Victoria, most of the changes with legislation, like the deadline for safety checks, are making it hard and a lot of people are finding that overwhelming,” she said.

“I think it’s the perfect time for a lot of people to take a step back from the office and take some time for themselves.”

Speakers this year’s event include Rhys Standley from Just Property Management and Beau Miller from Beautique Realty.

“Rhys is an agent in Western Australia and he has a really good story when it comes to creating a positive team culture,” she says.

“I’m really excited to hear him speak because culture is such an important part of what we’re all trying to create in our offices.”

“Beau Miller is also someone I look up to as she’s gone out on her own and started her own agency, which takes a lot of guts.”

This year’s speakers also include Melissa Hickson, Kylie Maxwell, Courtney Hill, Hermione Hart, Laura Shooter, Michael Furlong, Lauren Robinson and Julia Hern.

For first-time attendees, Ms Mitchell said PMLR had a key focus on networking with other people in the industry and the size and format of the event make it a more personal and interactive experience

“One of the big things about this conference is that all the speakers, sponsors and delegates all network together,” she explained.

“It’s not like other conferences where speakers present on stage and then you never get to see them again.

“You get to eat, have drinks and catch up in a really relaxed environment.”

PMLR is on March 23-24, 2023, at Waurn Ponds Estate in Geelong.
