RE/MAX New Zealand awarded its top performers for the first half of 2018 to complete its August Rally program, held at the Novotel Ellerslie, Auckland, where the network came together for a full-day event designed to bring a focus on leadership to RE/MAX members.
Winners in the number of transaction stakes for January to June 2018 were RE/MAX Go For Sold, Palmerston North; Team Lewis, RE/MAX Go For Sold, Palmerston North; and Donna Russell, RE/MAX Central, Rotorua.
For gross commission, the stars for that period were RE/MAX Go For Sold, Palmerston North; Team Lewis, RE/MAX Go For Sold, Palmerston North; and Lisa Walden, RE/MAX Zest, Pokeno.
Zoran Mulovski, RE/MAX Zest, Remuera, was announced as the top-performing commercial agent.
Denver-based Cheryl Luster, RE/MAX Senior Global Development Consultant, travelled to New Zealand for the event and presented RE/MAX International Hall of Fame awards to Debbie Aldred, RE/MAX Realty Group; Jeff Bracegirdle, RE/MAX Partners; and Cherry Holden, RE/MAX Team Realty.
With the Rally underway, RE/MAX New Zealand and RE/MAX Australia Franchise Director Joel Davoren led the morning’s Leadership Session, with a panel comprising New Zealanders Garry Malcolm and Jerry Chen.
RE/MAX New Zealand General Manager, Corinna Mansell, said, “Broker owners, team leaders, team members or individuals can all be leaders in their own right. The Leadership Panel allowed us to get to know a few of our colleagues better, know what makes them tick, what are their successes and their strengths, and how they will continue to lead into the future.”
Garry Malcolm, broker owner of RE/MAX Team Realty, began his real estate career in 1981 and opened his New Plymouth real estate business, along with wife Maree, in July 2004. At that time, the team involved three salespeople and one administrator. RE/MAX Team Realty has been named Top Individual Office for RE/MAX New Zealand every year since 2005. The team has grown to 19 salespeople and three administrators. Mr Malcolm has been named both New Zealand Broker Owner of the Year and RE/MAX International Broker Owner of the Year.
Jerry Chen, sales associate with RE/MAX Partners, gets around 80 per cent of his business from client referrals because he loves closing the sales deal and getting results. He leads a talented sales team of six, all of whom speak English and Mandarin, and one who speaks Cantonese in addition. His personal and team awards are numerous.
Justin Nickerson, formally recognised as the leading auctioneer across Australasia, was the first keynote speaker.
“Justin’s unwavering belief and understanding of the real estate process is the cornerstone of his working relationships,” said Mr Davoren in his introduction to the floor, “and he believes that information is the oxygen of relationships.”
Mr Nickerson examined the power of information and transparency between the agent, buyer and vendor.
The second keynote speaker was pilot, Everest mountaineer, adventurer and dedicated family man Mike Allsop; or, as RE/MAX New Zealand/Australia Finance Director Chris Chapman said, “an ordinary person proving that anybody can accomplish extraordinary things”.
Mr Allsop is living proof of his philosophy ‘if you believe you can, you will’. Among his accomplishments are becoming an international airline pilot, ascending Everest in an unguided expedition and running seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. He’s also narrowly dodged a fatal avalanche in Peru, risked being shot in Russia and returned a replica of a stolen Yeti hand to a monastery in Nepal.
“Mike is a truly remarkable individual,” said Ms Mansell, “and a great self-leader.
“Our Managing Director, Michael Davoren, had opened the day with the question, ‘We were all born leaders; what happened then?’ Every RE/MAX member has the potential to be a great leader, and that starts with being a great self-leader.
“Our Broker Forum and the July Rally were very successful and we saw sensational speakers share their experiences, techniques and strategies. We also heard the impressive results from the recent brand awareness campaign and what’s in store for our network on the soon-to-be-released Precinct platform.
“These events are always so fulfilling, not only with the content of the days but to see the type of close-knit network we are privileged to be part of,” she said.
The next RE/MAX New Zealand Rally and the Annual Awards Gala are in February.
