Rock icons and fine wine: Tallagandra Hill hits the market

A celebrity-favourite winery and events venue, which has hosted some of Australiaโ€™s biggest music legends, is now on the market.

The award-winning Tallagandra Hill, located just 30 minutes from Canberra in Gundaroo, has been listed for sale, presenting a rare opportunity to own a thriving business that blends premium wine, live music, boutique accommodation, and large-scale events.

Over the past nine years, owners David and Mary Faulks have transformed the property from a respected cool-climate winery into a bustling entertainment hub.

Hosting Jimmy Barnes, Kate Ceberano, Troy Cassar-Daley, The Waifs, and Darryl Braithwaite multiple times, the venue has become a key player in Australiaโ€™s live music industry, drawing music lovers from across the country.

The couple has also developed a luxury accommodation offering, with three bespoke vineyard cottages, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the propertyโ€™s breathtaking surroundings.

David Faulks said he and Mary knew they had discovered something special the moment they laid eyes on the vineyard.

“We were living in inner Sydney when we first saw the property, and we just absolutely fell in love with it,” he said.

“We saw a huge amount of potential at the time and thought, why not?”

That vision has paid off, with the business growing sevenfold in recent years.

Private events are now booked up to two years in advance, and the vineyard is producing some of its best fruit to date thanks to years of careful organic management.

“The vineyard is extremely healthy at the moment. We’ve been working hard over many years with an organic nutrient program to make the vines happy, healthy, and productive. The fruit weโ€™re producing this year is outstanding, which is exciting for everyone in the district,” Mr Faulks said.

Despite their love for the winery, the couple has decided itโ€™s time to move on, with plans to spend more time with family, including at their newly built guest house in Ireland.

“After nine years, it’s time to pass the baton on,” he said.

“We’ve taken things to a level that we’re very proud of and that we think is highly sustainable into the future, but we know that other people could come in now and do things that we’ve only just started to do. The business could double what it is at the moment.”

Ray White Canberra marketing agent Chris Dixon, said he is expecting strong interest from buyers across Australia.

“When the current owners first acquired Tallagandra Hill Winery in 2016, it was a well-regarded wine operation in the strategic cool-climate corridor. Today, it is so much more,” Mr Dixon said.

“There are multiple revenue streams, including wine growing and production, product and service sales, tourism, and extraordinary eventsโ€”music, weddings, corporate, and private functions.”

The property itself is equally impressive. The cellar door and function centre caters to large events, with space for more than 50 guests indoors and 80 in the outdoor courtyard.

The winery produces Shiraz, Tempranillo, Cabernet, Viognier, and Vermentino, and the vineyard now spans 4.8 hectares under vine.

The addition of a commercial kitchen and three self-contained vineyard cottages has made Tallagandra Hill a complete lifestyle and business package.
