Portuguese supermodel and Victoria’s Secret Angel, Sara Sampaio has bought herself a private island – the only problem is she can’t physically step foot on it.
The digital island is in The Sandbox metaverse and cost the model 25 Ethereum, a cryptocurrency, worth about $110,000.
According to Domain, the island was sold through the website Exclusible, and was one of 25 being sold in Exclusible’s exclusive archipelago.
Professional tennis players Ana Ivanovic and Stan Wawrinka are apparently other notable non-fungible token island purchasers.
A handful of the digital islands were also offered to social media influencers and some are supposedly close to Snoop Dogg’s digital pad in The Sandbox metaverse.
The rapper bought a block of land there last year and created a Snoopverse neighbourhood where he then sold blocks of digital land.
In terms of touchable bricks and mortar, the New York Post reports that Sampaio recently sold her three-bedroom East Village digs following a price drop.
She bought the home on 12th St for US$3.51 million in 2018 before listing it for $3.45 million and finally dropped her asking price to $3.35 million, after which the property sold through Nick Gavin of Compass.
