There’s no place like Judy Garland’s former Malibu beach home

As Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz, “there’s no place like home”, and although you don’t need a pair of ruby slippers to own Judy Garland’s former Malibu beach house, it will set you back more than $5 million.

Constructed in 1947, Garland lived in the home with her second husband Vincente Minnelli and their daughter Liza shortly after it was built for several years.

The former Garland-Minnelli beach house is on Malibu’s Las Tunas Beach within a stretch of homes that have themselves been the backdrop to several Hollywood films.

The residence was completely rebuilt in 2013, and it’s now back on the market for $5.07 million, as Top Ten Real Estate Deals has reported.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home offers uninterrupted ocean and beach views, with a double-view fireplace for both the vaulted-ceiling living room and dining room.

The property is designed in Cape Cod style, with entry via a private courtyard.

With three-metre-long accordion doors that open on to an expansive deck, the first floor boasts uninterrupted ocean views, as well as space to sunbathe or entertain guests.

There is also a brand-new kitchen that features marble countertops and Viking appliances.

Upstairs, the master bedroom opens on to its own private oceanfront deck.

Malibu Beach has long been renowned for the large number of celebrities that call the area home.

Some of the area’s longtime residents include Courteney Cox, Cher, Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr and Miley Cyrus.

In addition to having kilometres of sandy beaches at its doorstep, this home is also close to numerous upscale eateries. The listing agent for the former Garland home is Sally Forster Jones from Compass Los Angeles.
