Who will be the world’s first trillionaire?

The pandemic saw the fortunes of the world’s wealthiest people skyrocket, with the race now on to become the world’s first trillionaire.

New data from Approve.com has predicted which current-day billionaire stands the best chance of reaching the exclusive trillion dollar milestone first.

With a net worth of US$263 billion, entrepreneur Elon Musk is currently the world’s richest man and if his fortune keeps increasing at the current rate, he could be a trillionaire in just two years.

Musk’s fortune has increased 129 per cent each year and if that rate of growth continues, would see him achieving a net worth of US$1.38 trillion by 2024 at age 52.

Gautam Adani, chairman of the commodity trading business Adani Group, is next in line to hit the trillion dollar level, possibly as soon as 2025.

The Adani Group began with a focus on coal mines, ports, and power plants across India and have since moved into airports, data centres, and defence.

Chinese tech billionaire, Zhang Yiming, founder of Beijing ByteDance Technology Co, could reach trillionaire status by 2026 on the back of the huge success of TikTok and Toutiao.

Indian businessman, Mukesh Ambani is next in line to hit $1 trillion, with the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited, which makes most of its money through refining fuel, due to hit the milestone around 2029.

Rounding out the top five is Bernard Arnault, who is set to reach the trillionaire milestone at age 72 in 2029, five years after Elon Musk. Arnault is the chairman and chief executive of the world’s largest luxury goods company, Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Of the thirty individuals analysed, only twenty-one will realistically have a chance of becoming a trillionaire during their lifetime, based on their current net worths and rate of wealth growth over the past six years.
