Woden to welcome ACT Health

The Department of Health has signed a 15 year lease for 11,000sq m of office accommodation at the newly refurbished 2-6 Bowes Street Phillip. Colliers International’s Paul Powderly, Tim Mutton and Michael Ceacis brokered the deal.

The ACT Government will be relocating its workforce of about 750 staff from multiple sites around Canberra and will be joining other Commonwealth Government Departments already in Woden including the Department of Health and Ageing, IP Australia, Civil Aviation and Safety Authority, Department of Social Services and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The move by the ACT Government to Woden is part of their commitment to revitalising the Woden Town Centre. The ACT Government plans to provide significant improvements to the public realm including new parks, bus interchange and implementing a new masterplan to encourage development. Furthermore they have also announced a spend of more than $55 million to the improvement of the Health Precinct at nearby Canberra Hospital.

2-6 Bowes Street was purchased by Quintessential Equity in 2012. The commercial office building with a net lettable rea of 12,537s qm across 5 levels was purchased without a tenant. Quintessential Equity then undertook major refurbishment works of the building, targeting a 5-star NABERS Energy rating. The complete regeneration of the building included new lifts, upgraded amenities and services as well as a facelift for the building façade with new shopfront glazing and new signage.

In addition to negotiation the leasing deal, Colliers International has been appointed by Quintessential Equity for the Design and Project Management for the Department’s new home at 2-6 Bowes Street. The Project Services team of Kieron Hewitt, Rebecca Pelling and Peter Black will be delivering the project.
